Fatal Crash on US 41

Please be advised, according to the Sarasota Police Department, a fatal crash occurred on January 12, 2022, around 7:00p.m involving one car and one bicyclist. Witnesses reported to law enforcement that the crash happened after the bicyclist (an adult female) was cycling across U.S. 41 from the 16th Street intersection. The driver (an adult male) was traveling on U.S. 41 when he collided with the bicyclist. The bicyclist was transported by first responders to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, but she unfortunately passed away as a result of her injuries sustained in the crash. According to the Sarasota P.D., the driver who struck the bicyclist remained on the scene and was cooperative with the investigation. The specific details of how the crash occurred have yet to be announced, but the Sarasota P.D. Traffic Unit is still investigating the crash.
